The Establishment is a quiet, intimate chronicle of a community in flux, captured in vivid colour through the uncertain days of the pandemic. Walking the familiar streets of Port Credit while much of the world stood still, I set out to document the shop owners and longtime business people who have quietly held the neighborhood’s spirit together. With the everyday routines disrupted, shops closed, patrons absent, lives rearranged, the photos reveal not only storefronts and interiors, but the human stories behind them: years of dedication, resilience, and rooted in place. The pandemic added a strange stillness and a fragile beauty to each frame, reminding us of what we risk losing when familiarity is interrupted.
Through environmental portraits of local businesses, many of which are the cornerstones of the community, The Establishment captures a snapshot of permanence and change, of memory and survival. Collectively, the photos become a meditation on identity, time, and belonging, a visual elegy to what it means to be part of a community, especially when the world outside seems uncertain. This project doesn’t just document a place, it preserves its pulse. These are the portraits of The Establishment.
